Organize what you have noticed, what you want to understand and what each adult will do after the conversation.

Bring a short picture of the current situation

  • The purpose of the conversation
  • Two or three specific observations
  • Recent notices or work samples the school provided
  • A relevant schedule or family change the school should know
  • The best way and time for follow-up

Ask questions that invite a usable answer

  • What are you noticing at school?
  • What is going well that we should continue?
  • What is the next skill or routine being worked on?
  • What can the adults at home do consistently?
  • When should we check progress again?

End with owners and dates

Before the conversation ends, restate the next steps in plain language. Note which action belongs to the school, which belongs to the family and when the adults expect to reconnect.

Keep school records and sensitive child information in the approved private channel, not in a public link or general family group chat.
